Frequent questions

How do you compare two laser levels?

By lining up quantities of the same kind: an accuracy in millimetres at a stated distance, a range measured under the same conditions, a laser class. The comparator sets the figures side by side, for up to four instruments, exactly as the manufacturer publishes them — no rounding, no rewording.

Which figures should you read first?

Accuracy, then range, then laser class. Accuracy is the only quantity that depends neither on the light nor on the surface aimed at, which makes it the most comparable. Range only means something under equal conditions — by eye or with a detector, never one against the other.

Can you compare a laser level and a distance meter?

No, they do not measure the same thing. A laser level throws a reference and is judged on a deviation in millimetres at a stated distance. A distance meter measures a length and states an uncertainty on a single reading. Both figures carry the same symbol and do not mean the same thing.
