Functions
Magnetic swivel base, 360° rotation · Range extended to 40 m with the target plate supplied · Stated runtime: 6 h in green, 10 h in red, with every beam lit · Compensation range of ±4°

Use

Two lines crossing on the wall, one horizontal and one vertical: that is the layout which covers the great majority of indoor jobs — putting up a shelf, lining up frames, fitting a splashback, marking a height.

The instrument levels itself within 4°. Beyond that it has to be reset. Its magnetic swivel base holds on a steel surface — stud, frame, beam — and turns through 360° to aim the cross without moving the mount.

The beam comes in green and in red. Green is clearly easier to see with the naked eye, because the human eye is more sensitive to that colour; it also draws more current, which explains the difference in stated runtime. Red is still enough in dimly lit rooms and over short distances.

Frequent questions about this model

What is the difference between the green and the red beam?

Visibility to the naked eye. The eye is more sensitive to green: at equal power the line shows up from further away and on more surfaces. Red draws less current and costs less. Both versions state the same accuracy of ±3 mm at ten metres and the same range.

Is this laser level dangerous to the eyes?

It is a class 2 instrument with a stated output below 1 mW. At that class the blink reflex is enough to protect the eye from a brief exposure. You never look into the beam on purpose, never point it at anyone’s face, and never study it through an optical instrument.

How far does the line reach?

The maker states 30 metres to the naked eye indoors, and up to 40 metres with the target plate supplied, which throws the beam back and makes it easier to read. Outdoors those figures collapse: daylight wipes the line out after a few metres, whichever colour you choose.

What is in the box?

The laser level, its 360° magnetic swivel base, the target plate, a fabric pouch and the instruction manual. The two AA batteries are not included: the supplier leaves them out, and we would rather say so here than let you find out on opening. Get some before first use.

Can it be fixed to something other than steel?

Yes. The swivel base carries a magnet, handy on a stud or a steel frame, but it also screws onto a tripod: the fitting is a 1/4-20 thread, the one used by camera tripods and small site tripods. The instrument weighs 520 grams, well within any ordinary model.

Does it stand up to dust and damp?

The housing is rated IP54: protected against dust and against splashing water from any direction. That covers a dusty site and a rain shower, not immersion and not a hose-down. The stated working range runs from −10 to 50 °C, storage from −20 to 70 °C.
