3D laser levels — three 360° planes

(1)

A 3D laser throws three complete circles of light: one horizontal and two crossed vertical. Unlike a cross, the reference goes right round the room in one go — you reposition the instrument once, not at every wall.

It is the commonest layout for second fix: stud tracks, tiling, setting out. To go outdoors you need a detector — without one the line becomes invisible after a few metres in daylight.
